We are thrilled to bring thousands of Barefoot Books to Greater New York with Reach Out and Read!
Reach Out and Read of Greater New York gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. They provide books and training to over 230 Reach Out and Read programs in predominantly low-income communities in New York City, Long Island and the Greater Hudson Valley.
This year, we are so honored to contribute to ROR GNY’s Book Buddies program to help them deliver 320,000 books to their sites in low-income communities — their biggest Book Buddies order ever! Through this initiative, ROR GNY partners with other regional literacy organizations to purchase beautiful, diverse, high-quality books for program recipients to help distribute children’s books to those who need them most. Many of the books reach very young children at their pediatrician’s office during well-visits.
One of the titles selected for the Book Buddies program was the singalong picture book Twice as Many Friends, written by Brian Amador and composed by his band Sol y Canto. At Reach Out and Read of Greater New York’s Annual Benefit this October, Brian received the Gary Tannenbaum Book Author Award, which recognizes children’s book authors who are dedicated to promoting a lifelong love of reading in young children. Brian’s new singalong book Boogie in the Bronx was also spotlighted at the gala.
We are also excited to continue supporting Reach Out and Read of Greater New York for the next two years as the publishing sponsor of their annual fundraising event. The theme of this year’s benefit was “A Book for Every Child,” which was designed to highlight ROR GNY’s commitment to bring as many high-quality children’s books to as many kids in New York as possible.
We are grateful to work with an organization whose mission so closely aligns with our own of opening children’s hearts, minds and worlds, and we look forward to our continued partnership.
