Among today’s youth, a majority of mental health disorders begin in childhood, with 50% beginning before age 14. Learn how parents, educators and community members can effectively respond, centering on the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL) in children's health, and the vital role of stories & storytelling in fostering resiliency. Panelists include:

Going Global with Children's Books. Saturday May 4th, 12pm–1pm EST. A conversation with author Bunmi Emenanjo (I'll See You in Ijebu) and Senior Editor Kate DePalma

Enjoy a delightful hour with Barefoot Books Senior Editor Kate DePalma and Barefoot’s newest author, Bunmi Emenanjo, as they dive into the making of our brand new release I'll See You in Ijebu, and discuss the importance of global, authentic voices in children's literature.

I’ll See You in Ijebu follows a Catholic girl growing up in Lagos, Nigeria who takes a trip to visit her Muslim relatives in the countryside town of Ijebu to celebrate Eid al-Adha. The Guardian says, “Her richly evoked experience, from sweltering cars and puff-puff hawkers to making pepper soup, will resonate with anyone whose family involves more than one heritage or tradition.”
